High quality, automated bus stop information now a reality across Norfolk

FWT is working with Norfolk County Council to supply bespoke, automated bus stop information posters for over 1,500 locations across the county, having won a high-profile contract which began last autumn.

“FWT’s professional approach to data management, quality assurance and high quality production, has resulted in a premium product that is accurate, user friendly and affordable,"

Jeremy Wiggin. Travel Development Team Manager, Norfolk County Council.

FWT has developed bespoke software to enable Norfolk’s TransXChange bus times and stops data to produce departure lists for all services at all stops equipped with poster cases. The system also imports individual or corridor route diagrams, operator and authority logos, and QR and SMS codes for passengers, to be displayed in an automated manner for various poster case sizes and to Norfolk’s corporate style Since beginning the work in October, almost 400 individual posters have been produced to reassure passengers of the times and routes of their next bus.

“As a managed service to intelligently use TransXChange data to provide clear, bespoke, relevant maps and times to passengers at stops, we believe that this is a real first,” said FWT Commercial Manager, Robin Bennett. “By combining our experience and skills in cartography and passenger communication with the power of this data, we can provide a high volume of attractive passenger information to local authority and operator clients much more efficiently than before. Norfolk’s commitment to ensuring its data is of the highest quality has helped significantly in achieving this milestone.”

This contract builds upon work undertaken since 2012 in partnership with Norfolk County Council to significantly upgrade and improve multi-modal passenger information in Norwich City Centre and at Great Yarmouth Market Gates bus interchange. This work, driven by central government’s Better Bus Area funding, has led to greatly-improved passenger satisfaction levels with bus stop publicity, and was highly commended at the 2014 National Transport Awards.

“FWT’s professional approach to data management, quality assurance and high quality production, has resulted in a premium product that is accurate, user friendly and affordable,” said Norfolk County Council’s Travel Development Team Manager, Jeremy Wiggin. “Norfolk County Council and FWT’s partnership has pushed the boundaries for at-stop information and re-affirmed the Council’s commitment to provide top-class travel information.”
